Professional Fire Service Consulting, LLC was formed in 2018 by founders Kirk Wilkinson and Mike Vogt to meet the needs of fire service, safety professionals, local municipalities, and NGOs in the greater Bay Lakes region.  Our goal is to meet your fire safety needs. Michael J. Vogt
Senior Consultant and Founder

Michael J. Vogt, BS, CFI-II, CFPE, CFEI, IAAI-FIT, is a highly certified firefighter, fire officer, fire inspector, and fire investigator in Michigan. Chief Vogt holds licensure in Michigan as a Fire Protection System Inspector, Fire Protection System Plan Reviewer, Building Official, and Emergency Medical Technician. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration, concentrating in Fire Investigation, and is an alumnus of Eastern Michigan University’s Fire Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program.

Chief Vogt is deeply involved in the fire service and has extensive knowledge of fire suppression, fire inspection, fire investigation, and fire education. He also contributes as a Jones & Bartlett Learning—Public Safety Group curriculum reviewer. His dedication and professionalism have been recognized with numerous awards for his life-saving measures and commitment to the field.

In addition to his primary role, Chief Vogt is a Regional Response Coordinator with Michigan MABAS, coordinating regional emergency response efforts and ensuring effective and efficient operations during critical incidents. He is the Vice-Chairperson for the Lapeer County Central Dispatch Authority Board and a subject matter expert on the Technical Advisory Board for Lapeer County Central Dispatch and Lapeer County's Emergency Management Advisory Council.

Chief Vogt is also an active Lapeer Child Advocacy Center board member and serves on numerous regional boards focused on fire service improvements. He is also a member of the Michigan Municipal League Municipal Services Committee and its public safety subcommittee, contributing to municipal service improvements and public safety initiatives throughout the state.

Kirk P. Wilkinson
Senior Consultant and Founder

Kirk P. Wilkinson, MS, CFI-II, CFPE, brings over 25 years of diverse experience in the fire service, excelling in roles ranging from firefighter and engine operator to fire marshal and chief officer. He is a trusted expert in fire suppression, operational supervision, emergency communications, department administration, and fire safety planning. Kirk’s specialties also include fire inspections, site plan review, public and media relations, capital purchasing, grant writing, incident action reviews, and developing promotional exams and interview processes.

Kirk’s impressive credentials include certifications as a State of Michigan Fire Officer III, Fire Service Instructor II, and Registered Code Official in Fire Protection Systems. He is also a State of Michigan Licensed EMT-B and holds advanced credentials as an NFPA Fire Inspector II and Fire Plans Examiner.

Educationally, Kirk has achieved an Associate Degree in Applied Fire Science and Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Fire Administration and Emergency Services Management, all from Columbia Southern University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He also earned a Master’s in Organizational Leadership and Executive Fire Rescue from Waldorf University.

A Certified Fire Chief and Credentialed Chief Fire Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Kirk is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University’s Fire Staff and Command School. His extensive knowledge and leadership make him a key asset to Professional Fire Service Consulting, LLC.

Staff Members

Nick Reitano, Senior Staff

Nick Reitano has over 15 years of dedicated experience in the fire service, serving in roles ranging from firefighter and engine operator to company officer and chief-level officer. Currently, Nick works full-time as a Battalion Chief within a metropolitan fire department in Michigan, where he brings his expertise in training and education to firefighters and fire officers alike.

Nick’s professional credentials include State of Michigan certifications as a Firefighter II, Fire Officer III, and Fire Service Instructor I, with endorsements in NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I and II Train-the-Trainer programs. He is also a licensed EMT-B and a ProBoard-accredited origin and cause fire investigator, having completed the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation School.

Nick holds an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Delta College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration from Columbia Southern University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. His commitment to firefighter education and professional development makes him an invaluable member of the Professional Fire Service Consulting, LLC team.
